Eclipses

On our planet, there are two types of eclipses. What are they? How are they formed? All this and more in this article. Please drop a comment if you liked it or not. I will also tell you that both are related to the moon, sun and the earth.

The first one is called a solar eclipse. Solar eclipses are formed when the moon, which is currently orbiting the earth, goes and blocks the sun’s light coming to the earth completely. The sun is much bigger than the moon, but it is also much further away from the earth than the moon is. Keep in mind that the solar eclipse cannot be seen from everywhere on the earth, only from specific regions.

There are many types of solar eclipses. When the moon completely blocks the sun’s rays from reaching the earth, so that the sun is completely blocked, it is known as Total Solar Eclipse. When the moon blocks only a bit of the sun from the earth, it is known as Partial Solar eclipse. When the moon is in front of the sun, but the outline of the sun is visible, it is known as Annular Solar eclipse. A hybrid solar eclipse is when an eclipse can shift between Annular and Total solar eclipse. It is the rarest type. (NASA Science .gov) (indianexpress.com)

The other type of eclipse is known as the Lunar Eclipse. It occurs when the moon’s and earth’s position is so that the earth blocks all light from the sun going to the moon. It is the opposite of a solar eclipse. When a lunar eclipse occurs, the moon glows red as the only light is refracted. Red light is bent into the earth’s shadow, and since the moon is in the earth’s shadow, it glows red.
